P.S.
Marla Swoffer is the kind of writer that when I read her stuff I wish I'd written it. You know what I mean? She's brilliant and her aim is true. She's young enough to be my daughter. And I made the foolish mistake of exhorting her last year to stop blogging and start getting her stuff published.
So I spent the past year getting stuff published while Marla honed her blogging style and made connections all over the place and analyzed, synthesized, provoked, prodded, and stimulated all kinds of discussions and thoughts . Hmmmm. Sounds like what I set out to do as a writer. Only I'm looking at my page proofs for The Mommy Manual and they seem so . . . so . . . .static.
I guess I'm at the falling-in-love stage of blogging -- like why didn't I do this sooner?
Anyway, Marla posted a particularly brilliant piece yesterday on The Culture of Death. The legacy for the Gen-Xers that were convenient enough for the Boomers to allow to be born. And to think we're demanding that they fund our Social Security!!!

Barbara, don't be so hard on yourself! I've always been a computer person, so online stuff is sort of in my blood. On the other hand, you've been a professional writer a lot longer than me, not to mention a wife and mother, which is why your words of encouragement here mean so much...not to mention your amazing example. I'm blessed that now I can learn and grow from you on a regular basis!

Hi Barbara,
I just wanted to thank you for being an inspiration and encouragment to my daughter. It is so important to have role models in this life and there are so few.
I don't read many blogs other than Marla's, but wanted to let you know how grateful I am for your influence and welcome to the world of blogs. I am sure you are bringing something unique and wonderful.
Blessings,
Alicia Rose ( marla's mom)

As for the Giants, their own happiness was short-lived as they lost to - who else?
