    The Little Red Hen
Hooray for a good work ethic! The little red hen asks but receives no help in her efforts to put bread on the table. Yet all who wouldn't help would like to eat. In a refreshingly old-fashioned triumph of moral consequences, they don't get to!

Do you have a story?

I'm working on a book proposal to take to Mount Hermon Writers' Conference next month (that's where I got my start and now teach and critique).

I would like to expand and enrich what I have to say with stories of others who experienced God's intervention in such a way that the course of their family history was altered.  It may have been a time of joy or sorrow.  it may have been a big dramatic event or a still small voice.  It may have been dramatically apparent or something more subtle, where you realized God's involvement much later.

The common thing would be that it is the kind of story you would recount to your children and they would recount to theirs:  "This story shall the good man teach his son."

Okay, maybe that's over-the-top, but I feel like a fortunate woman to have discovered that incredible site.  First of all, Henry V is our family's favorite movie.  And second of all, back up to the main page of American Rhetoric Movie Speeches and there are speeches from all kinds of movies -- even Cher in Clueless.

Okay, now I've gotten distracted.  And you might too.  But when you finish browsing, come back to considering:

What I'm trying to capture is an Old Testament approach to making sure our kids understand how our family got to the spiritual ground on which it stands.  To increase their sense of connection with the past, and their purpose for the future.

If you're interested in sharing a story, it can begin with a phone interview, or an email -- whichever is most comfortable.

And feel free to pass on this request.  Thanks!

Love,

I have written up a father story of mine, but I am not sure if it would be what you are looking for. I could email it if you like. I will also put it on my blogspot which is linked at by URL. jenny

I have enjoyed your site. Thanks for letting me know about it. I love your idea for this book. The sin of Isreal is that they failed to diligently teach their children the things that God has taught them. Faith is passed on thru the shared history from one generation to another. May God Bless Your important work.

Hi Barbara! I am not sure if you remember me, but I met you at Mount Hermon a couple of years ago. I am really excited to be attending this year and was very happy to see you listed on the staff. Anyway, I am not sure if it is too late, but I may have a story for your book. Interestingly enough, it was part of my last assignment for Christian Writer's Guild.
The topic is on reversal surgery.Through a series of dramatic events we were blessed to expand our family from three children to six. See you in a few weeks! Marci
