A secret sibling
I just came across a very tender story by a man who found out as an adult that he had a sister with Down syndrome who'd been institutionalized by her parents and never mentioned to her siblings. He's begun a relationship with her, which he shares here.
And I'm left thinking: How many mistakes we make through fear. . . How many times we miss God's best because we think we know what's best ourselves. . .
Emily Dickinson said, "The soul should always stand ajar, waiting for the ecstatic experience." How many ecstatic experiences do we miss because our doors are shut?
Oh, Lord. Help us keep our doors ajar!
Love,
