Book alert
A book on punctuation that makes you laugh out loud??
Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss will tell you more than you would have ever thought there was to know about those funny little marks which writers depend on to govern the tempo, signal emotions, or clarify the meaning of their words.
My kids, having heard my laughter and checked out the source, are squabbling over who gets to read it next.
I'll tell you something: a good writer can take any subject matter and make it sing. Witness On Writing Well by William Zinsser - probably the best writing advice in the world, and a great read.
Oh, and my son Zach and I loved The Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson, which makes clear just how incredibly gifted we are to have English as the language we write with.
I would recommend all three of these for homeschool teens. They'll thank you after reading them.
Comments
I read that book and thought it was absolutely outstanding and funny. My teenage daughter read most of it as well.
Speaking of books I finally finished my book list. I was never very good at tag because I was always the slowest runner. Some things never change.
