Changing things one heart at a time

For the past three years, since we moved to Virginia, my teens have gone to the Creation Festival, which you might sum up in two words as a Christian Woodstock.

This year my oldest son Josh, shown here at his scruffiest after a few days of festival,

decided to take Jonny. Which turned what might have been six days of Christian hedonism - well, yes, it's worship, but there's no sacrifice or help involved - into Christian service.

I was proud of him!

So, how did they fare? Well, Josh told me that Jonny changed everything, bringing out the best in everyone - as usual. At the end of the week, many people gave thanks that Jonny had been there.

Check out these pictures to see why

Those are lollipop sticks protruding from everyone's mouth, btw.

I'm thinkin' that between Josh and Jonny, I'm a pretty lucky mama!

Barbara, you are a braver mom than I am! The thought of Evan being in that large a group of people makes me hyperventilate. He is 17 but still tends to wander off & not remember what to do if he is lost. Do you have that happen with Jonny or is he pretty good about staying put in a crowd? He looks like he had a ball though!

Lori,

Well now that you say that, I guess I should have been more worried. I wonder why it didn't cross my mind? Maybe because they were going with about 75 people from a few churches around here and they all set up camp together. I don't know - I just didn't think of what might go wrong.

Yes, he does tend to wander off - though definitely not as much as when he was younger. I'll never forget one time when he was about 6 and we had just moved to the country in California,he showed up at our nearest neighbor's (whom we hadn't yet met) with just an umbrella. No clothes. Boy, were we embarassed!

I think that it's fantastic that Jonny was able to go and bless so many people. I bet he even had a good time himself.

Trust in the Lord!

What precious young men these are! Barbara, I read your blog every morning and am blessed by it. Thank you for writing and speaking for those of us who can't say things as eloquently as you do. My nephew also has Down's syndrome and a precious heart. It's nice to see you championing these children of God when so many others refuse to open their eyes. You might be interested in this story which I saw today. With adult examples like these, how will children ever learn to accept each other? http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/4728564/detail.html

Blessings to you!
