Sad news
Births to Unmarried U. S. Women Set Record
Sad because kids need dads. And mothers need committed husbands. And I'm not saying that from some prissy holier-than-thou place, but because I know firsthand. I grew up without a dad and I was a single mother myself for five years.
I hate how through feminism and the sexual revolution the counterculture worked to make dads expendable. The only people who've profited from this trend are men, who've been absolved of responsibility while women who think they're liberated struggle to raise kids on their own.

Yes, I agree. But I did see one possible encouraging thing about this...that these babies could have been aborted, but instead these single women chose to give them life!! I know you just wrote several blogs on abortion but I not taken time to read them yet. Perhaps some women are now choosing to have their babies out of wedlock rather than getting rid of them. PTL!

Jeani - that is a nice thought. Unfortunately, though, according to statistics while marriage rates are down, abortion rates are up. So I don't think it's so much that abortion is decreasing, but marriage is decreasing.
But I'm grateful any time someone chooses life.

I saw this too. I think that it is sad. Not that it isn't possible to be a single parent, on either side. The problem that I had with this is that there is almost an attitude of superiority or martyrdome. Like a single mom can say 'well I do it all' I don't get why our culture would want to exhalt this attitude.
btw, I also say this being a child of a single mother and being a single mother for a year.

I'm not sure even the men are profitting. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his soul. These men are trading worldy pleasure for something far worse. Although, I understand what you were saying in my estimation these men are not profiitting either.

Good point, spunky.
I meant profiting in the worldly way: getting free sex with no responsibility.
