Thank God for health insurance

We got the news today that Ben, who is at Liberty University studying opera, will be having a very unexpected knee surgery tomorrow morning.

Okay then. Let's just reconfigure the next week in light of that: Tripp will be leaving for Lynchburg before dawn to see Ben through it and bring him home to recover. Daniel has an appointment with a behavioral MD tomorrow that I had to make four months in advance, so I'll be staying to take care of that (oh, and he had to have a stubborn baby tooth extracted Monday by the dentist). Next week Jesse also has a tooth removal scheduled as well as the endoscopy for the possible celiac disease.

Do I feel a little beleaguered with medical stuff? um, yes.

This is, I believe the fifth Curtis knee surgery (Tripp, Josh 2, and Zach), in addition to one shoulder surgery (Tripp), five tonsillectomy/appendectomies (Zach, Jonny, Jesse, Daniel, and Justin), ten pairs of ear tubes (Jonny had seven of them), one appendectomy (Samantha - oh, and she might have had her tonsils out too, I don't remember offhand)), four major intestinal suregeries for Jonny, tear duct opening (Samantha), strabismus (crossed eye) repair (Jesse), not to mention ingrown toenail and wart removals a-plenty.

Then there've been the ER trips, including at leat ten for stitches (various), two broken arms (mine and Maddy's), a swallowed fifty cent piece (Maddy), a chain saw cut across the knee (Josh), and other various less clearcut problems - like last weekend when Maddy and I spent from 9pm Saturday night to 4am Sunday morning in the emergency room because I thought for sure she had appendicitis. All I have to say about that is that we should have tried prune juice first :)

Just in case you've been wondering what it's like to raise a big family. But hey, if you're considering having one, don't let this scare you.

Love,

I just found your website and have enjoyed reading your entries. I have a special place in my heart for Downs kids. I worked at a Childrens Home for Down Syndromes and when I finished there I got a live in job caring for a thriteen year old Downs syndrome boy. I love those kids.

I have a daughter who has Learning Disabilities and am feeling quite challenged right now with meeting her needs. I think I'll just bookmark you and when I need a pick me up I'll come here and read about your life. What an exceptional lady you are. Blessings!

"But hey, if you're considering having one, don't let this scare you."

Yeah, right. ;) lol

I just found out this morning that I am expecting number three. I'm so excited!

AAAAAAAAAaahaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha....

That was (painfully) funny. No pun intended. Or...okay, maybe it was intended.

Hope the knee surgery goes okay, as do all the other things on your plate. Just reading it made me tired!

Oh, and I have to sympathize with you on the ER all night with "appendicitis" thing. I did that a couple months ago with my 6 year old (and the newborn, who had to come along since *I* have the milk)...one loooong night (full of vomit) later, it was (*drum roll please*)...

Just the stomach flu.

ARGH!

Thanks Mrs. Darling!

feeling sympatico, Molly.

Rachel - this is great news! Congratulations! Watch out for those comments now - "Was it an accident?" At least you know there's a crowd here rooting for you!

Thanks, Barbara. I know those types of comments are coming along with my personal favorite, "Don't you know what causes that?". That's why I'm not telling anyone that I know offline for a while. Well, that's not true. I told my pastor's wife, who is a good friend. Oh, and I also told Elijah, my 18-month-old. But, as he is pretty much on a one word at a time vocabulary right now....he's not telling. ;) I don't want anyone raining on my parade anytime soon. So, I'm just not gonna tell for a while. It's our little secret, okay? ;)
