Who is on the throne?
One thing obvious in the Katrina aftermath is that a large segment of our society truly believes that it is the government's job to meet our every need, prevent every unhappiness, and perhaps someday to change the kitty litter.
Check out this story:
Settlement Reached in Frozen Baby Suit
in which an uncle sued the state of west Virginia and won $850,000 because his nephew died in the mentally disabled sister's unheated house.
Which only leaves me wondering why the uncle didn't see to it that the heat was turned on and why our courts think it was more the state's responsibility than his and the rest of her family's.

it does make you think of whether anyone can accept personal responsibility any more. my husband was at a neighborhood mtg the other day about a post glacial bog that runs right through our streets where after the geologist presented his findings there were 2 hrs of heated conversation about whether we have to report this in the sale of our homes. the ironic part was that they also wanted to know who was responsible for not informing us thus far and putting our homes at risk. so far several houses have been bulldozed due to sinking foundations. argh, human nature is human nature, but we must rise above it and accept not only are we 'victims' in this life but WE also impact others for better of for worse.
