Why a big family?

I hope you'll understand that although my passion is to write for readers here, I have other things to take care of this week. My grandkids spent the night last night. Tomorrow is the Blogs4Life Conference. Wednesday Maddy is getting her humongous and too-often-infected tonsils removed. And then there's that book due February 1 (I did finish my article last week). Ay-yi-yi-yi-yi!

So I feel like y'all are sitting in my living room and we're having this ongoing conversation, but for now I'll be ducking off to take care of other things and posting little odds & ends and readers' questions this week.

Here's one from Tara that came up as a comment on Trasitioning to Megamotherhood. I'm moving it here because I know you all will have some good things to say:

I hope this isn't too personal, but I was curious how you knew you wanted a big family? I have two, ages 4 and 1, and pretty sure I'm done because I can't seem to handle the daily responsiblity now, but I envy the BIGGER families. If only we could have big families without the work.

Love,

Mothering is a skill that can be cultivated.
It is hard work, yes, but if you weren't spending your time and energy doing mothering work, then it would be spent doing frivolous things or some other work that isn't near as fruitful!
Mothering is the most direct and efficient route to holiness that I know of. Wasn't it mother teresa who said give until it hurts, and then give some more?
