Picture Book Preschool

Well, I learned something new today. One of my cyber-friends, Sherry Early - in addition to her blog Semicolon - has a preschool curriculum built on 52 children's books, one for each day of the year. It's amazing how many of the same books we've picked to read to our children and to recommend (see Barbara's Picks for my still-not-quite-complete recommendations).
But Sherry has done something more than recommend: she's created a year-long curriculum guide for mothers of preschoolers that sounds simply wonderful, with each week built around a theme, including a character trait to work on, a Bible verse, and seven picture books to read aloud.
In addition, she has collected 52 books and sells the entire package for only $99 - which might sound like a lot 'til you realize that's less than $2 per book plus the curriculum guide, which sells by itself for $12.99. This would be a great way for a newbie mom to start her children's library with good, solid books - plus more insight into how to use the books to help your child grow. You could also ask Grandma and Grandpa to check it out for a birthday present. This is an investment that will far outlast anything by Fisher Price.
If I sound like an ad, that's because I LOVE this idea! Visit Picture Book Preschool to see what you think!

Thanks! I've been looking for a more cohesive plan for our library reading...this looks like an excellent resource in addition to the books Andrew picks out himself. I am putting the guide on my birthday wish list!

Thanks Barbara and Sherri!
I have sent the link to my homeschool group.
This is a great thing for our many young families.

This is a great idea. As soon as I come up with the money I am going to do this. My childrens library is very bleak ever since we moved across the country and had to sell everything we own. That IS an excellent price!
