Sunday Dinner

Here's a rite of passage I love:

Sunday dinner at our house is open for all the family. While it's been a while since Nathan and Jasmine have brought their own family over, Samantha and Kip and their five - plus Josh, Ben or Zach if any of them are here - are still enough to make us have to split into two groups, adults in the dining room and kids in the kitchen. It's not my first choice, and actually Samantha and I are cooking up a scheme to fit us all in the dining room sometime soon.

In the meantime, last Sunday we had the usual split (I made linguini with bacon because it was Patrick's birthday and that's his favorite - and I never had a bite myself! Still sticking to my diet - 36 pounds lost now) But after eating, as the adults and teens lingered talking about this and that, Maddy and Patrick (her nephew a year younger) came out and sat down and joined in the conversation.

I didn't really notice until Tripp said something this morning about it - and then I realized that in the past they've always finished the meal and played with the younger kids. This time they were more interested in talking.

I love that transition! Love having another voice to add to the dialogue!

Next thing you know, they'll actually be eating with the adults

Love,

First of all, congrats on the weight loss; you and God are doing wonders!

Secondly, I loved it when I was allowed to sit at the adult table! It meant I finally arrived.

Hearty congratulations to you on the 36 lbs, Barbara! You have inspired me to do the same.

I have been on the diet for four days now and have lost 10 lbs. It certainly won't continue to drop off at that rate, but I am most encouraged so far. The problem is, the next birthday in our family of nine is in less than six weeks... and it's MINE!!
