My Mission Statement

When I teach other writers I always emphasize the importance of having a mission statement to avoid veering off target from God's particular purpose in your writing. I thought it might be helpful for readers to know mine. I wrote this originally in 1997 and it has never changed:
I am a writer and speaker with a unique perspective derived from a rich background of experience. My calling is to unburden, enlighten and encourage believers and to communicate effectively with those who have yet to believe.
I chose the bridge image above because I see the purpose of my life as a bridge-builder, trying to equip those who don't understand each other (liberals and conservatives, Christians and nonChristians) for better communication. Of course it grieves me when there is such misunderstanding and rancor in the Christian community. But that is one of the things I'm required to be involved in. Knowing that is my purpose helps me get through times when I am the one who is misunderstood and judged.
Again, I find my job description in 2 Corinthians 18-21:
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
(my emphasis)
I've also said before how grateful I am for this place where I can connect more intimately with my readers than I ever could through the pages of my books (although the books have their place too, which is why I will continue to write them though my unpaid writing has become the dearest to my heart :)
Comments
2 things struck a chord w/me in this post:
*A reminder about writing. I need to sit down and sculpt my vision.
*The bridge. Just last year God put that on my heart that I'm a bridge. It made me smile when I read this post.
