27 Kids

Did anyone see this show on the Discovery Health channel last night? It's about a family with four biological children who have adopted 23 kids with special needs.

Jasmine called me to say it was on, but I was already on my way to bed. It will be repeated May 28 at 4:00 am so I am going to DVR it to watch at a more reasonable hour.

In the meantime, if anyone watched it, what did you think?

Didn't see it, but is this the guy who runs the Orlando Magic? He has about that many by adoption and I have heard him on Focus on the Family. Anyone know?

Hi Barbara, thought it was time I introduced myself since I've been quietly reading and enjoying your stuff for so long now without saying hello.
Here in the UK we saw a documentary recently about this amazing family. I must say, when I saw it I thought of you, I'd love you to watch it and know what you thought.
If I was to sum up in three words the impression I had of the family, I would say they were characterised by love, dignity and fun. It portrayed a lifesyle that I think challenged almost every notion that our prevailing culture has about that which is thought to be important, valuable and necessary.
Of course, alot depends on the editing. It would probably not be difficult to make them look like the lunatic fringe.
The documentary I saw didn't do that, it mainly just followed them around and let the story tell itself. I hope the US version has a similar treatment.
All I can say is watch it when you get an opportunity, and then let us know your thoughts!
With my best wishes, and thanks for a wonderful read! Clare (London)

Barbara- Havent been around lately. Been working on a writing project! But had to check in and you look beautiful on your new side pic. Just beautiful, you should be so proud. Congrats on the diet success. My makeover goal for right now, is daily prayer. Know any good blogs? I had a post recently on postcards from holland, but I have been lying low. Mrs. S - this is a different family. You're thinking of Pat and Ruth Williams who had four children of their own and have adopted 15 - so 19 in all. He is coach of Orlando Magic and I've seen their storiy and pictures in several different magazines. Really a wonderful family!

Clare - I have the DVR set to run 5/28 at 4am to catch it for me - will let you all know - anyone else have TIVO or DVR and want to discuss it later?

Suzanne - Good to hear from you. Elisabeth Elliot is always good.

I loved it! I am 21 years old and I remember listening to this family on focus on the family when I was very young. I knew it was her when I heard her voice the other night so I stopped channel surfing and I was incredibly blessed by this family and their story. All they do is amazing and God has blessed this mom, dad and older sister to have this undying compassion for the forgotten and God will bless all the more everyday:)

I loved this show; just watching what these SN needs children can DO was astounding! These children have been able to learn life skills that may never have been possible under different circumstances.
