About Sophia
I realize I don't say much about Sophia. I think it's because sometimes our relationship is strained due to issues having to do with chores, attitude, respect - the usual teenage daughter stuff.
So I just want to say right here and now that Sophia has been a really exemplary daughter and her dad and I have much to be proud of.
She does her best at school and gets good grades without any pressure from us. Right now her cumulative is 3.61. She will be in Honors English and AP History next year.
She has had her driver's license for two months and is driving like a pro - very safe and responsible. And she keeps her car spotless inside and out.
She has conquered keeping her room tidy.
She is volunteering as assistant director for a children's summer theater, thus gaining some valuable experience for something she plans to do in the future - while earning tuition for her own drama camp. She is very disciplined about getting out on time each morning without any push from her parents.
She managed to balance a new sport - rugby (!) with her theater/singing interests all spring. You may wonder about rugby - so did I. But her big brothers play it and that was what she wanted. The bumper sticker on her car reads Rugby: Trample the Weak, Hurtle the Dead. Most unlady-like - and especially for a 16 year old with one of those high-pitched breathy kind of feminine voices. But I admire her dedication and discipline.
She dresses modestly, is not at all into suggestive music or questionable movies. She is not boy-crazy, and has concentrated on her relationships with her friends. She has chosen wisely and her friends are as wholesome and happy as she is.
She has a strong relationship with the Lord and isn't riding her parents' coattails. She is learning and growing every day.
Above all else, she is a growing to be a poised and accomplished young woman who's making wise choices based on the future which is promised to her if she does.
So Sophia, this is from your Mommy to you:
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
That's Elton John, remember? Love that song. Love my kids. Love being able to write about the things I love.

Sophia sounds wonderful. I always wondered if she asked to remain anonymous.
