Not all wounds are the kind that need a bandaid

Yesterday on the radio news there was a report of police apprehending a man charged with a string of incidents involving exposing himself to little girls in the northern Virginia area. The man gained their trust by promising to show them a box of rabbits.
The report heralding his arrest concluded, "None of the children were harmed."
Huh?
Adults can be pretty dense sometimes. One of the things that makes me so grateful for my Montessori training is learning to see the world through a child's eyes. To grown-ups, it's like learning a long-forgotten language.
Remember that children tend to blame themselves for everything - their parents' fights, for instance. And they don't easily forget assaults on their innocence. Ask any of us who've had them.

As a pastor's wife and children's teacher I hear about these kinds of things happening all too often. It breaks my heart. I would love to hear your thoughts about the best way to help children who have been abused in this way.
