Take your kids to see Cars!

carsposter.jpg

Sophia and Maddy saw Cars earlier this week and came home in a great mood. Now I know why.

Last night Tripp wanted to take the four younger kids to see it, thus giving me the option of getting some writing time - which I desperately need now that the kids are out of school. I couldn't imagine a movie bringing cars to life would be anything I wanted to see, but I was torn because I wanted to spend time with my hubby and kids. I am here to tell you: I am VERY glad I went.

What a fun movie! The usual Pixar artistry combined with a great story. Maybe not ranking as high as Toy Story II - one of my all time favorite movies - but still right up there as a favorite in its own right. Everything about Cars is wonderful - Great imagination, animation, characters, plot - and the music is absolutely wonderful.

The effects of this movie will be long-lasting in this family. I've already told Tripp we need to save up to take a road trip across Route 66 next year with the kids. Though I travelled cross country with the kids four years ago when we moved to Virginia from California, we stuck to the highways and only took nine days. Plus Tripp wasn't with us. Cars made me want to experience a slower and more vacation-y trip with the whole family (well, what's remaining :)

Anyway, go see Cars. It is one of those rare films - rated G (not marred by any bathroom humor) and yet completely entertaining for adults as well as kids. Though it is much longer than most animation movies, I was never bored or restless.

Watch the trailer of Cars here.

Love,

We took the kids to see this movie last Saturday, as a way to do something as a family before the baby gets here. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though it was long, Elijah, our two year old, sat through it, and didn't even really get too antsy. Definitely a great movie!

I've been a big fan of Pixar for years now. Except that my favorite movie is Monsters Inc. (which I happen to think is the cleanest, best done movie I've ever seen), I'm in complete agreement with you.
We've been waiting for Cars to come out since we bought our copy of The Incredibles and saw the previews. It's out at just the time my son is starting to show a preference for vehicles and all things manly. Unfortunately, we don't get many movies in English here (the Army Base seems to just like showing R rated stuff for the soldiers, too), so we have to wait til it's out on DVD.

My grandparents live north of Seattle so I've been on a number of roadtrips out to see them. My mom trys to always schedule enough time to get off the beaten track and enjoy the amazing scenery and culture. Once we even swung all the way down to Yellowstone for a couple of heavenly hours. I'm still longing to get back there some day.

Hope your roadtrip plans work out. :-)

Some friends of mine recently saw Cars and they were disappointed in the fact that, for a G movie, the word "h*ll" was said twice in the movie. They also thought the humor was at times a bit crass. My kids are too young for movies but even if they were older I have little faith in Hollywood producing decent films for young children.

We went to see Cars last weekend and my children really liked it. My 3 year old was a bit antsy at times but the rest ages 5,8,and 9 seemed to really enjoy it! There were a few instances of phrases with double meaning that were meant to crack up the adults and yes, hell was mentioned... I don't think my children caught that though... I really enjoyed the movie quite a bit and will be happy to have it as part of my dvd collection!

PluggedinOnline.com has a very thorough review of both the positive and negative elements of this movie. Worth checking it out before viewing. :-)

Tara -

Thanks for reminding me of PluggedIn - it is one of my favorite places for movie reviews, but I must admit I didn't think of going there to check out a G movie. I always go there to check PG's which I sometimes find more offensive than some R's.

I read the review - it really captures the positive elements well! I can see why I liked it so much. I must confess, the questionable elements went right over my head. I must have been in Little Child mode rather than Watchful Parent :)

So I appreciate finding out a little more. Even fully informed, though, I'd recommend it for the very positive and uplifting story line.
