Diet Update

fat lady.jpg

My friend Mel who has been blogging at Actual Unretouched Photo for a long time, recently started a diet blog at The Amazing Shrinking Mom. Mel and I live 3000 miles apart and have never laid eyes on each other, but I love the woman dearly. Besides similarities like loving to go to movies and eat theater popcorn (even alone), we started dieting around the same time. Shortly after I announced my diet - which I've since discovered is something a lot of people would rather not be public about - Mel landed an actual paying gig with ClubMom to write daily on her dieting journey. ClubMom chose the right person, because this woman can write!

For those of you dieting, you ought to check out her site for encouragement, laughter, and tears. Also, you can go for public accountability. Yesterday I joined Mel's Diet Naked challenge. No, it's not as painful as it sounds - hmmm, well it might be if she hadn't chosen a name that made the actual requirements seem easy.

All it takes is a public acknowledgment of your weight statistics.

Here are mine:

Start Weight: 252 on 2/2/06 (I shudder to mention this, but it's important)
Height: 5'5"
Lowest all-time adult weight: 117 (in 1970 after first baby - and I thought I was fat!)
Weight in 1983: 130 (with two daughters - went on to have 7 more birth children in the next 11 years)
Current weight: 194
Goal: 150 - I hope by Christmas
Driver's license weight: 185

About that driver's license weight: who was I kidding?

But hey, now I'm almost there! And the best news is that when I have to show my ID people are saying, "Man, you need to get a new license!"

Don't forget to join in my collective weight loss tracking - see the fat lady on my sidebar? Let me know how much you've lost since 2/02, when I started my diet. It's pretty impressive when it's added up.

We're changing the world, one pound at a time!

Hi!

I have lost 25 pounds since Mother's Day.

You have been an encouragement to me.

But I don't think I will ever post my weights. You are very brave!

I have lost 12 pounds but I really need (per doctors) to lose about 70. Since February I have also begun and lost a pregnancy so that changed my focus for several months. I am hoping my totals for the next 6 months are not so meger.

Thanks, Barbara, for everything!

I have lost 10 and hope to lose 10 more. then, maybe 5 more but I want to be realistic. Reading that you just started again has me starting again. those 10 pounds were just about one time through the fat flush. thanks so much for being you!!

Fun to run into your "endorsement" for Mel's site here! I've been sprinkling her link around the blogosphere whenever I run into a weightloss post... which is frequently, since it's swimsuit season. She is incredibly entertaining at both of her blogs, and equally determined.

Bless YOU for going "naked" too! I was impressed with the photos you posted recently, and I intend to link to you on this subject soon. Great work! While I don't struggle with weight issues myself, I DO eat a lot of salads, drink green tea, and stay away from anything "white"--bread, rice, potates, pasta. That seems to have done the trick for me. God bless, and again, well done!!!
