Guerrilla Parenting

lots%20of%20babies.jpg

It's been a year and a half since I ran this series. There is so much stuff buried in my archives and I have so many new readers - and especially since we're on the subject of big families - I thought I ought to give you these links:

Guerrilla Parenting

When it comes to winning the culture wars, Tripp and I feel well-positioned. Surveying the terrain, mapping our strategy, and especially measuring our capability, we feel braced for battle.

After all, we have 12 kids.

Just as not everyone is called to the mission field, or called to homeschool, or called to adopt, I would never argue that every couple should submit their family size to God. It takes a lot of faith. On the other hand, just because you've submitted your family size to God, it doesn't mean you'll have a dozen children!

Guerrilla Parenting #3

In 1989, Rick and Jan Hess wrote A Full Quiver: Family Planning and the Lordship of Christ (check out the reviews). In a chapter called "Guess Who's Not Coming to Dinner," they list the birth order/family size of U.S. presidents, noting that a third came from families with four or more (up to 13) kids.

And for good measure, how about Ten Great Reasons to Have Another Child?

Hi Barbara,
I come from a family of 4 siblings and always felt sad for only children-and we welcomed them into our the more the merrier family. :) Mom always cooked for an "army" and friends would always show up for dinner, even after eating at their own homes, probably more for the company than for the food. ;) Our family wasn't huge but compared to many it seemed to be. I only wonder how much more fun it would have been had mom been able to have all the children she wanted. She is still mom to many through love and ministry to many children.

We always seem to have some extras at our house too! They really seem to love the hubbub here. When the whole family gathers on Sundays we even have baseball games.
But I do notice that a couple of my kids also enjoy going to visit friends with smaller families - especially the perks like unexpectedly being taken out to dinner at a restaurant.

When i was a teen my best friend and I became friends with sisters from a family of 13 kids. One year the 2 of us, and ANOTHER friend, were invited to spend the week between Christmas and New Years with them. That made 18 souls under one roof, there was 1 bathroom, and during the day the number increased even more as friends from the youth group came and went. It was SUCH A GREAT WEEK! To this day I don't remember where we all slept, but I do remember a lot of laughing and I remember their mom being in the thick of everything. She had such joie de vivre. The kids ran the household (cooking, everything) and the mom had time to sew and love on the little ones.

"I would never argue that every couple should submit their family size to God."

I have never understood how we could NOT share what the Bible says about God controlling the womb. There are things that I still don't understand about the Bible but I do my best for follow it completely. To me, while it does take a lot of faith, God requires us to give Him the womb. I feel that if I tell a family that they may not feel God leading them to be quiverfull then I am dishonoring God. Just my very small two cents:-)

Thanks for the reading!
