On a personal note. . . .

(funny picture, huh?)
I realize I haven't been talking much about children lately and the thought crossed my mind this morning that maybe I should set out today to write something directly about kids.
But then I realized that it makes sense that I haven't written about children here for a while as I've been up to my eyeballs writing about them for the two books I'm working on for next summer's release: Mommy, Teach Me! and Mommy, Teach Me to Read!. So on second thought it seems natural that I would find release and recreation - in the sense of re-creating my energy - by writing about other things on my mind.
So for those of you who are new here and wondering if I'm really a mother at all :), yes, I still have six children at home and I see my grandchildren every week and I am still most interested in observing children and passing everything I learn to you. There are over 1000 entries here and 4200 comments - a wealth of information to access for anyone who stumbles across this blog.
Simply click on the Categories link above, or use my personal Google in the right sidebar to search for anything from Montessori to chores to teens. Also, the section in the top left sidebar - Barbara's Picks - is loaded with helpful information. If you click on Early Education, for example, you will learn from reading the descriptions of the items featured there how to use them to help your child reach his or her potential. That section of my blog is not so much about getting you to buy stuff (although when you do buy something you need through there it helps support this site), but about highlighting wise choices. If you find the same stuff at a garage sale, that's all the better :)
So please forgive me as I finish this second book for not focusing on our children so much these days. But I'm kind of feeling like we do when we sit down for a cup of coffee with a good friend and let the kids run around and our discussion starts to head into other directions.
One of the reasons I don't mind housework is because our minds are free to roam while our hands are busy. Imagine if you worked in an office or someplace where your mind was captive all day. There is really a lot of freedom in being a mom, isn't there? Don't let people convince you otherwise.

I want you to know that even though I have not read the book yet, I am A LOT happier with my laundry duties. Thanks for being such a blessing!

Oh I wouldn't change places with my dh for all the tea in China (or coffee in Starbucks, more appropriately!). My job is hard but I wouldn't have it any other way. And with the advent of the Internet, moms can have a little play money of their own too. We can have the best of both worlds.
