Call for pictures!

My work with the books is not over. I will be spending the month of October gathering and setting up photos to illustrate the exercises in the books.

Some of you have already sent me pictures and I still have them.

But I am sending out another call to bring in more. Those of you who've read Small Beginnings know the kind of Montessori exercises I am looking for pictures of children engaged in. But I can use pictures of children doing puzzles with knobs, lacing beads, pegboards, etc. See under Barbara's Picks in the left sidebar or search the archives under Montessori to see what I mean. I need to capture children concentrating, working independently. I need pictures of kids folding napkins, setting the table, putting dishes away, sweeping floors.

The pictures have to be high resolution and sharp focus. If you have a tripod, use it. If not, just be extra careful to hold the camera steady. For the purposes of the book, the pictures need to be uncomplicated and easy to get at a glance. Avoid cluttered backgrounds or patterned clothing. For this kind of thing, spontaneity usually doesn't work - although it may show you a good potential picture, you will have to spend some time composing the shot keeping in mind all the things I've said.

If you have a friend with a better camera, you could ask him or her to shoot the pictures while you set them up. It's always good for picture taking to have someone assisting who can see what's going on while the other person takes the pictures.

Keep n mind that I won't be able to use all the pictures I receive. But I will use as many as I can for the books - and then some can spill over to the website.

Love,

Is there an age range of a child you would like doing these activities?

My six year old Katie would love to pose for some pics for you :o)
