Easter Seals needs your vote
You know those Easter Seals stamps you get in the mail every spring? Well, you can vote for the ones you'd like to see in 2007 here. It will take less than a minute.
Easter Seals is one of those organizations that's been around so long it's become background music and some people might not know what it's all about.
I first came to know Easter Seals up close and personal when Jonny was born - with Down syndrome and some problems requiring major surgeries his first 15 months. Easter Seals came alongside our family, offering support with Early Intervention services and mother/baby play groups where we learned how to meet our kids' special needs and where we were able to talk over our hopes and fears. (Read more about my experience here)
But Easter Seals is much broader than that, offering support services for all age groups and types of disabilities. Remember when the boys went to Easter Seals Summer Camp - and then when I went with them to Down Syndrome Family Camp?
Like many now-secular helping organizations, Easter Seals was founded by Christians in 1934, hence the name. The original documents explain, “Easter means Resurrection and New Life, and the rehabilitation of crippled children means new life and activity . . . physically, mentally, spiritually.â€
Today their byline reads, "Helping people with disabilities gain greater independence." This is a great place to volunteer - one of those experiences where you go in to help others reach their potential only to learn that God is using it to help you meet your own.

My sister has attended Easter Seals Camp here in Colorado since she was very little. She is now 41 and still goes as an adult. She has CP and Spina Bfida and Easter Seals has done wonderous things for our family.

Just found your blog from Neurotic Moms site. I think its great you did a post on this organization. It is so important. Way to go for getting the word out. I don't think a lot of people are familiar with what they do. It is truly a blessing to so many people
