Les Miz in Loudoun!
Things are really buzzing here in western Loudoun as Loudoun Valley High is planning on doing Les Miserables as their December musical.
Les Miz is our family favorite musical/book. A wonderful story of grace and redemption (see my article The Gospel According to Les Miserables). My big boys have always wanted to be in it, but are now beyond high school (though we keep hoping maybe some day when Ben is a professional opera singer he might deign to sing in just one musical/operetta :)
Sophia is a junior and is trying out today - go Sophia! And in wonderful news, Messrs. Thompson and Stoneberger - the music and drama directors at LVHS - have opened auditions to kids at middle school, so Maddy auditioned yesterday - go Maddy!
Both schools have been showing the Dream Cast version of Les Miz in chorus classes, which inspired Jonny yesterday to come home and recreate the scene of Enjolas flying the flag of revolution while singing "Red and Black" with these dramatic lyrics:
To decide who we are
Do we fight for the right
To a night at the opera now?
Have you asked of yourselves
What's the price you might pay?
Is it simply a game
For rich young boys to play?
The color of the world
Is changing day by day...
Black - the dark of ages past!
Red - a world about to dawn!
Black - the night that ends at last!
Those of you who've seen the play and have been around here long enough to know Jonny and his flair for drama will appreciate these pictures I shot:
Jonny really wanted to take the flag to school to show everyone in chorus class, but I knew a big stick like that would be considered a weapon. Fortunately, I was able to persuade the bus driver this morning to allow him to bring it to share.
His "Thank you, Mom!" and hug as he got on the bus just made my morning!

Barbara, that is such a delightful story about your Jonny! Such talent! The pictures are so precious too. I could almost hear him saying the lines as I looked at the pictures of him waving that red flag. :)

Hi!
It is so good to have found Johnny somewhere! I was the Bishop of Digne in the same production that he was in of les Miserables at Franklin Park Arts Center. I have been missing Jonny and many of the other cast members, so I am happy to be able to connect once more. Keep up the good work, Jonny!
