Matt in Cats

This is my son Matt, who's 21 who's a professional actor and is currently appearing in Cats at the Riverside Theater in Fredericksburg, VA. His girlfriend Missy just sent me this picture which she snapped when we went to see the show last month. It was a great production - somehow they managed to borrow the sets and wigs from the original. And as you can see, the costumes were superb.
We've seen several plays at the Riverside and this was by far the most challenging in terms of staging and choreography. The entire cast did a great job.
My son has come a long way from that first production of Winnie-the-Pooh where he played a bee and couldn't stop looking at Tripp and me in the audience to make sure we were looking at him.
We're proud of you, Matt! And thanks, Missy, for the picture!

How wonderful that you not only got to see CATS but had a child (former child) in the cast. I pray that you not only enjoyed the show but the time with Matt and his girlfriend. You are looking great these days.

Wow, that is really neat! My kids are involved in a local theatre. I think it is great for them!

Matt is Alonso (Alonzo?). We had seen Cats in San Francsico when the kids were young. It is probably really fun for him to be in plays he saw long ago. The place he works is a dinner theater where the actors and actresses serve dinner and make tips in addition to his salary for being in the play.
My favorite role he played was Tony in West Side Story.
Through the years a number of our kids have been involved in local theater. We had our children do a little of everything possible until we could see what clicked. For a few it was theater and right now it looks as though four plan careers in theater - Ben in opera, Matt and Maddy in musical theater, Sophia as a children's director.
The funny thing is that Ben and Sophia also are passionate about playing rugby!
