New book on Down syndrome

gifts.jpg
Few parents expect or desire to raise a child with Down syndrome. Yet many who travel this path discover rich, unexpected rewards along the way. In this candid and poignant collection of personal stories, sixty-three mothers describe the gifts of respect, strength, delight, perspective, and love which their child with Down syndrome has brought into their lives.

In celebration of Gifts: How Children with Down Syndrome Have Enriched Our Lives, Rebecca Phong has created a beautiful online montage of pictures from the book. Grab a kleenex and click below:

Gifts

Look for my kids at the end in the Siblings section: Maddy (our ninth and last birth child, now 13) with brothers Jonny (our eighth, now 14) and Jesse (11), Daniel (10) and Justin (6) - who were all adopted into our family as babies.

In addition to the pictures, the book has articles by parents, including one I wrote called "Entertaining Angels" about how having a child with Down syndrome changed my perspective on - well, just about everything :)

The group is already planning a Volume II, so if your life has been touched in some way by a person with Down sydrome, you may want to consider contributing. Check here for guidelines.
