Advent Hymns
I love hymns. I love the intelligence of the poetry. I love the way they give song to our theology, voice to the longings of our hearts, and specific praise to Our Creator.

Click on these links to hear the hymns our family sings for Advent:
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
This is my favorite:
Wake, Awake, for Night Is Flying. It's a bit different and I love the intricate German melody.
Another site for you to bookmark is Cyberhymnal, which offers over 6000 hymns and gospel songs, including not only words and music, but the history of each hymn and picture of the composer.
This is a great way to familiarize your children with traditional music.

I love hymns too. I just bought Then Sings My Soul, and I bought the keepsake edition. It has 300 hymns and the stories behind them. Knowing the stories has made some of the hymns even more moving.
I miss hymns. Our church rarely sings them. Not that I don't like our music. Praise songs make me feel like I am singing to Jesus, and really helped teach me to worship when I first came to Christ.....but you just can't beat a good hymn! Meaty, full of truth!
PS This is the same Shelley who emailed you about the Mommy Manual the other day, just a different email, one without my last name in it.
