Momma Votes!

Hooray for everyone who went out and voted today, whether you sent me a picture or not. Here are the pictures I've received so far - if more come in, I'll add them too.

You've really done two jobs today - you've voted and you've left an indelible impression on your children that will lead them to take this right and responsibility seriously when they grow up. All the better to pass on your values and politics :)

So again I say, hooray!

Hi Barbara,

Yep, it was raining here, too, but I couldn’t convince my gang to wait in the car -- I think they wanted to see the fire trucks. My oldest two were not thrilled that I asked the poll worker to take our photo, but I told them the President had his picture taken outside his polling place – we could, too! The lady told us she came from a family of 14 and loved seeing us all there. Thanks for the encouragement to get out and vote!

Blessings, Meg in NC

Barbara,

We also loaded up in the rain (we are in Charlottesville) and headed to the school. First we had two teacher conferences and then we voted. The very kind woman at the polling place explained to the children that they needed to keep their hands by their sides so they didn’t accidentally hit the button that would submit my vote. They watched me touch my choices on the screen and then I let my youngest daughter push the button. Since only one other person was voting at that time, I asked the woman if she would take my picture. She double checked that it was allowed and took two pictures. I told her I would be sending it to someone who wanted to post pictures online of moms voting. She thought that was great and stated it was a good thing we “didn’t live in Iraq where it could be dangerous to let people know we voted.” I agreed with her.

I may not have voted for the winning candidates (I hope I did :) but nothing will happen to me for participating in one of the greatest privileges – and duties – we enjoy.

This one's from Marie, who blogs at Things We Said Today, and votes in my old stomping ground, San Franciso - as you might guess from the trilingual sign.

I forgot that you wanted me in it, too! Oops. This is our firstborn, a future voter. She says she has a loose tooth, her first. That gets me thinking that, if the rest of her childhood flies as fast as her first six years, she'll be old enough to vote before we know it.

Thanks for your wonderful blog.

Well Barbara, we went and voted. It was rainy and cold, but we got the kids bundled and went and did our duty. Complete with a small prayer before we left. I always feel so important when we do this, and I try to stress the importance of voting to the children. As a matter of fact this was a BIG discussion in our homeschool day today.

Unfortunately, I COMPLETELY FORGOT to snap a picture of us there. I did however manage to get a picture of them all, proudly sporting their "I'm a Georgia voter" stickers. More amazingly, I was able to get them ALL looking AT the camera and ALL of them smiling.at.the.same.time....

Barbara,

I voted today, with my three little ones and my nephew accompanying me. It was pouring rain out. I got everyone bundled up and strapped in their car seats. When we got to the polling site, I made sure everyone had their hoods up and umbrellas out. I got the two youngest children strapped in their stroller and we made our way into the building. It was at that point that I realized I had forgotten my wallet, with my photo i.d. in it, back at home. So, I loaded everyone back into the van, returned home, retrieved my wallet, and then did the whole thing over again.

The privilege and blessing of having the right to have my voice heard, outweighed those miniscule inconveniences though. So, I had to make two trips and deal with some rain. I didn't have to travel miles upon miles by foot. I didn't have to worry about a bomb going off as I stood in line with my children. I just had to get myself and my kiddoes there...along with my wallet. It was that easy and it was that important.

I've attached a picture of me with my three children and my nephew, in the hallway outside the polling site. :)

Hi, Barbara,

Here is a photo of my son at the polls when I took him. One of the poll workers gave him a voting sticker, if you can see it in the photo on his shirt.

Cheers,
