My next grandchild
We had the privilege of hearing Steven Curtis Chapman sing "When Love Takes You In" two years ago at the Washington Cathedral for the Angels in Adoption Awards. It still makes me cry every time.
Christians - in a very special way - all know what it means "When love takes you in."
Tomorrow, five of our 10 grandchildren are coming to stay with Grandma and Grandpa and the aunts and uncles (some of whom are younger than they are) for four days while my oldest daughter Samantha and her husband Kip fly to Guatemala to meet the baby girl they plan to adopt. Though they won't be able to bring her home for a few months, she has already won a place in all of our hearts.
When Kip and Sam were wondering how you grow to love a baby you've adopted, I could speak from experience that when they put the baby in your arms your heart swells in affirmation. It's really not a lot different than when you give birth and they put the baby in your arms.
Please join with our family in praying for this new little one. I know it will be hard for Kip and Sam to leave her behind while they wait for the red tape. And will you please pray to see if God might want to bring another child into your life in a way you hadn't thought of?
Adoption is a gift that blesses the whole family - perhaps even more than it blesses the child who needs a home.

Your daughter, her husband and this little girl will be in my prayers, as well your whole family.
Barbara, thank you for being such a strong voice and advocate for adoption. We have family friends who have adopted from Korea, Russia, and Ukraine, respectively, and feel privileged to have witnessed their 'journeys' and the joy these children have brought into their families.

Adoption is a gift that blesses the whole family - perhaps evenmore than it blesses the child who needs a home. This is an understatement!
Every time I visit your blog, I am blessed by your family stories. Your joy is so evident!

Thank you from another adoptive mom for encouraging your readers to adopt! We have been blessed with 8 children, including 4 children we adopted from Russia and Haiti. All of our children were adopted at older ages (2 1/2, 7, 7 and 10) -- please don't forget the older children out there who also need loving families! I will be praying for your daughter, Barbara!
