My so-called life

My washer broke Wednesday.
Anyone who remembers all the praise I heaped on Sears because of their maintenance agreements, forget what I said. I thought it was worth it to pay a set amount and then have all the repairs you needed - and when it works, it works.
But they can't come out to fix the washer until next Wednesday. So you can imagine after three days of not doing laundry here - and one bedwetter - how bleak things are clean clotheswise.
Tripp has loaded the laundry into the van and I am now off to do probably 15 loads because those washers are so teensy in the laundromat. I had to do the same thing about a year ago for the same reason. I was shocked - because it had been over 20 years since I had used a laundromat - at the cost.
Anyway, I've loaded up on quarters and am headed out for a few hours. It's 20 degrees here and I am trying hard to keep a positive attitude even as my day has been hijacked. Reminding myself that other women are carrying baskets to the river and pounding their family's clothes on rocks to get them clean.

And how in the world do Eskimoes do it?
But that's the life of a mommy, isn't it? You can always expect the unexpected so you might as well talk yourself into a good mood.

By the time you read this, you'll be done your laundry...but whenever I've had to use the laundromat, I have always used the triple loaders or front loaders...get SO much more in there and you get your money's worth, lol.
sorry about the broken washer and the laundry trip....

I'm sorry Barbara, I know how devastating a blow that must feel like. I've been there several times, since we can never afford better than a used washer and dryer. I usually take it as an opportunity for quiet time to read or sew or crochet... whatever I've been missing the most at the time. Good luck!

I think the Eskimos snow clean - where you beat the dirty clothes into the snow to clean them (has to be very dry snow, which I don't think is a problem for them). Not exactly something I would relish. In fact, makes me thankful for the laundry mat we do trudge out to every week.
Ever thought about getting a backup washer through freecycle just in case yours breaks again?

What model do you have again? We just purchased an LG front-loader. Very pleased so far (aside from the up front cost!)

Lol! Afew years ago our washer broke down and we simply could not afford to replace it. My response was very similar to yours... horror.
Bless him, my husband decided to help me fulfill my laundering duties. We made Sunday afternoon our date time together, and ever after we have referred to those times in our marriage as "recreational laundering." It will pass. :~)

King of Fools -
I have a Kenmore Elite which is HUGE and looks like a commercial machine. I got my first one in California six or seven years ago and LOVED it - definitely saves enough money to make up for the initial cost. Bought my current set here in Virginia three years ago. Of course with our family a year in the life of any appliance is probably equal to three in a normal size family's home. I'm still pleased, and don't fault the machine for breaking down - after all it's effectively nine years old rather than three. I'm just mad at Sears for selling maintenance agreements and then not being able to deliver reasonable service.
