Apron Power! #16

IMG_7450.JPG

Aprons around the globe! Monica blogs at Small Things.

Dear Barbara,

My family work as missionaries in Romania and I want to thank you for the encouragement and inspiration you give me through your blog.

Attached are two pictures of my friends and I on Christmas eve in our aprons. A little background, I have been married almost 10 years and I remember when we were first married, I wanted an apron to save on laundry costs. I looked and looked in Wal mart, actually a SUPER Wal Mart and asked several salespeople and I couldn’t find ONE apron in the whole store. Now this walmart has everything from eye glasses to milk to tires, but I couldn’t find an apron anywhere. So I made do without. When your contest started, I remembered that I had some cute fabric that I was saving for something special and I decided a pretty apron and Christmas baking were good reasons to break it out. So I made my apron. I didn’t know how to do pleats and tucks, so I tried to add some curves to the front to make it feminine. I love the fabric’s pattern, and since I got it at a second hand store, it can be called vintage.

Also in the picture are my two friends, Erin and Rachel. We all live in Romania and for Christmas, they both came over to celebrate. It is hard to be so far away from family and being all together with my family and kids makes it seem like the holidays. So we started baking up a storm. Peanut butter blossoms, sugar cookies, breakfast casserole, salsa for the Christmas day Mexican meal. Erin wanted an apron too, but unfortunately for her all I had was an all white cafeteria style apron. It did the job and gave us lots of laughs, and suggestions for a hairnet. Rachel came later and didn’t want to be left out so she got my 3yr old sons apron he uses for art and baking with me. He would be in the picture too, but at the time we took it, he was long in bed.

So here we are, three friends far across the globe, laughing and singing on Christmas Eve as we work in my tiny kitchen and remember the joy of Christs coming.

Love
Monica
