    The Little Red Hen
Hooray for a good work ethic! The little red hen asks but receives no help in her efforts to put bread on the table. Yet all who wouldn't help would like to eat. In a refreshingly old-fashioned triumph of moral consequences, they don't get to!
  • Noisy Nora
    Noisy Nora
Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool
  • A Chair for My Mother
    A Chair for My Mother
A remarkably beautiful story told by a young girl whose mother is a waitress. Since they lost all their furniture in a fire, they've been saving mother’s tips in a jar – so they can buy a big comfortable chair for their whole family to enjoy – daughter, mother and grandmother. Life has its ups and downs, but there’s always lots of love. Ages 4-7

Barbara's Picks

Though these links have been down for a few days, they are now up and running again.

For readers who haven't visited this part of my site, found in the upper left sidebar - these are products which I recommend for you and your children. Though they are linked to amazon, and your purchase of them - or any other products you buy after accessing amazon from this site - will generate a small percentage which goes toward the upkeep of MommyLife, the real value lies in the descriptions and applications I've provided. My recommendation of parquetry blocks, for instance, provides information on why and how these are useful in your child's early development. If you can find them in a second hand store, that's fine. The important thing is that you know what's worth investing in.

By the way, I want to thank all of you who have made shopping at amazon a regular part of your routine. By buying products you would normally buy elsewhere - one mother recently wrote me that she buys her son's gluten-free products at amazon now - you can save money yourself (their prices are usually great and you don't buy impulse items you might at the store) and help keep MommyLife paying its own way.

Thanks! So much!

Love,
