Big Boyz busy tomorrow - Mohs surgery for me
I am really busy tonight getting ready for tomorrow. Ben and Zach are home from college until January 20 (though Ben is going on a mission trip to New Orleans 1/7-1/14), so I spent the afternoon running to Lowe's and Home Depot, gathering supplies so they can paint and wallpaper two bathrooms and the laundry room over the next few days. When we moved into our house over three years ago we painted everything the same - cream-colored walls with white trim - because when I tried to pick out colors for rooms, I lost patience with the process and told Tripp to paint it all the same.
I love nicely-decorated houses but with my writing I don't invest the time other people do. The night before New Year's Eve we were at a White Elephant party at someone's absolutely gorgeous house and the rooms were painted all the perfect coordinating colors. I was seriously sick with envy. Well, no, not really - but I have been thinking ever since that our house would be much more INTERESTING if I could only get this color thing right.
The bathrooms and laundry rooms seem like a safe place to start. Then I'll plan to take it one room at a time.
My guys are being really good sports and spent the afternoon prepping the rooms. I bought them a DVD on how to wallpaper which they will watch tomorrow morning while I go to the doctor. Hopefully they will start before I come home. Hopefully they will do a great job. Pray for them :)
- and pray for me about the doctor. It started with this little scaly patch on my cheek that the dermatologist removed last month and sent in for a biopsy so that the insurance would cover it - she said it was just a formality and nothing would be wrong. Good thing she sent it in as It turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma (that's the not-too-dangerous kind of skin cancer) and tomorrow I have to spend a few hours having Mohs surgery. If you've never heard of Mohs surgery, please know that neither had I until the dermatologist referred me because it's on my face. Mohs surgery involves spending an indeterminate amount of time at the surgeon's because they scrape off a minimal amount of tissue and examine it to see if the margins are clear. That takes an hour. If there are signs of cancer on the margins, they scrape again and the patient waits while the tissue is examined. This continues until they are satisfied they've gotten everything. Then they stitch you up.
I've been too busy to think much about this whole thing, but it's starting to make me a little anxious wondering whether I'm going to have a crater in my cheek this time tomorrow night. I will let you know when I get home.
In the meantime, I have a few more posts to put up before I go to bed tonight. We'll talk more tomorrow.

Barbara,
I'm behind on reading your posts so I just read this. Earlier this year it was discovered that I had basosquamous on my face and my dermatologist cut it out leaving me with stitches on my forehead. At first I thought I looked like the bride of Frankenstein but now people can't even see the scar. It will be okay. I am thankful for you and myself that these things were discovered and will(has been) taken care of.
So thankful for you!
-Laurie

I'm not so good at the "no news is good news" so I am concerned. I just saw this tonight so I'll say a prayer for you!
