Blogs For Life

Blogs_Life-Logo_150.jpg

After 30 years on the Left Coast (Marin County, CA), I am so blessed to be back where the action is. Though I live in a somewhat rural area, I'm only an hour from DC, which means that I get to participate in the March for Life on January 22.

Last year Maddy and I went together. She'd just had a biopsy on her foot and was on crutches and it was rainy and muddy, so we didn't get around as much as I would have liked, but I did take some good pictures, which you can see here. This year I'm hoping to take a lot more!

I will also be attending the second annual Blogs 4 Life conference preceding the march.

We are pleased to announce that Blogs4Life, the second annual conference of pro-life bloggers, will be held on January 22nd, 2007 in Washington D.C. prior to and after the March for Life.

This year's event will feature Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), Tony Perkins, Ramesh Ponnuru, Joe Scheidler, Bobby Schindler and Jill Stanek (left-right top-bottom).

Anyone else going?

Love,

We are hoping to go... as long as the weather cooperates. We have a seven month old and don't want her to get sick:)

My three boys and I will be there! I haven't missed a March since those long ago days of high school. And since we live on Capitol Hill in DC it's really easy to attend.

I am a little worried about my kiddos seeing some of the graphic photos some marchers bring. My five year old is especially sensitive. Any thoughts on how to handle it?

It's been at least 20 years since I went to a March for Life but I still remember braving those January temperatures like they were yesterday. To Molly, and other parents thinking about taking your kids: please take them!

Some of my earliest memories include the Marches and other ProLife activities in the early eighties. I remember my folks talking with us about abortion and explaining in general what it was. They believed (and with 10 kids, lived) that children are a heritage from the Lord and that some of the best arguments against abortion were children exhibiting grace to those around them. Kids raised with righteousness are contagious! No doubt, my parents did their best to shield us from the more graphic images and even some of the crazy characters (dressed like the Grim Reaper for instance) but they did talk with us about it ahead of time and we understood what it was all about. For a child with a particularly soft heart, understanding the value in standing up for Life might help them have courage to be near the images.

Of course, it’s easy for me to look back with rose-colored glasses and gloss over the challenge facing the parents who actually have the opportunity to attend the march. I live in FL and don’t foresee an opportunity to take our young ones (2 & 3) there any time soon. However, I know that my kids get exposed to all sorts of images on the Disney/Universal billboards slathered all over our city (Halloween Horror Nights?!?!?!). Potentially exposing them to images with a purpose seems a lot more desirable to me.

I don't know how much of a difference our participation in those early marches made in others (we moved to the Midwest in 1987) but they certainly impacted me. I understand that my very presence was a testimony to God's presence in the world just through my smile. What a great lesson for your kids: that your very life is witness to God's majesty and amazing grace.

I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
