Book Sale! Final Day!

I posted this January 11 - a two week sale of all my books plus A Full Quiver by Rick and Jan Hess. For those who've postponed - today's the final day. Stock up for shower gifts too!

Once again, I'm running a little short - Christmas happens! - and so I'm offering my books for sale - plus Rick and Jan Hess's A Full Quiver - at a better price than Amazon. If you've been wanting to buy a book or two and putting it off, now's your chance!

First, you need to know that authors don't get their books for free but buy them from their publishers at about half price plus shipping charges. But I realized last summer they sure don't do anyone any good piled up on bookshelf waiting for me to take them on speaking engagements where they can find their way into the hands of actual mothers.

(Which makes me think of that scene in What About Bob? where psychiatrist/new author Richard Dreyfuss tells new patient Bill Murray that there is a perfect book for his condition - then strolls casually over to his bookshelves to search among hundreds of copies of his new book only to act surprised and spontaneous when he finally pulls out one: "Oh, here it is!" - very, very funny movie, btw)

Anyway, I'd rather empty my shelves a little and put my books in the hands of the women I wrote them for. So for the next week, I'm offering this special deal: One book - $10; three books - $25. This includes postage, so it is a REAL bargain.

I know that some of my books have been used by Bible study groups as a basis for discussion. I was surprised when I first heard this, because they're not at all Bible study format. I'm no theologian and can almost promise you I would never be able to write a Bible study - that's not my calling. I'm just passing on what I've heard. But it makes me think that some readers might consider starting a discussion group where moms can read a chapter and then use it as a springboard for discussion once a week or once a month. My books are obviously written by a Christian but are not so heavy-handed that they cannot be read and enjoyed by nonbelievers as well.

They also make great shower gifts!

If you want to know more about the books and what people think of them, click on Barbara's Books on the right sidebar to go to Amazon to read the summaries and reviews. If you are unsure about how friendly or readable or worthwhile these books are, the reader reviews can help you decide. (I have no copies left of Small Beginnings or Ready, Set, Read! - which are incorporated into the two books I have coming out in June.)

You can pay me through paypal or email me (click on top blue bar, right hand side) with the books you want and arrange to send a check.

Also, I want to thank those of you who buy stuff from Amazon by clicking through this site (that's on the bottom of the left sidebar). For those who haven't heard this from me before, anything you order at Amazon after clicking through MommyLife generates a small percentage which goes toward the upkeep of this site. And you can order everything at Amazon from Huggies to garden hoses, from watches to washing machines. Oh, yeah, and books and music and films.

Some of you are obviously remembering this - and December paid for all my blogging costs for the previous three months! Yay! And thank you so much. While I can actually make money writing for magazines, I prefer to blog because I feel like there is more of a connection with my readers here. As I approach my two year Blog Birthday (January 15), I am so grateful for your support.

Books will be on sale until January 25.

Love,
