Amazing Grace - anyone seen it yet?

amazing-grace-2007-3.jpg

Amazing Grace - the story of Wilbur Wilberforce, who ended the slave trade in Britain - opened Friday. I have read nothing but good reviews of it.

Like this one from World Magazine.

You can see a preview here.

We have been busy with kids' activities and so have not seen it. Has anyone seen it yet? What did you think?

Love,

I saw it Friday, the day it came out,to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the historic vote that ended the slave trade in Great Britain. It is every bit as inspriring as I expected. Here is my review.

Dear Barbara,

A group from our church saw Amazing Grace on Saturday. It was very good! I'd recommend it for about ages 10 and up - only 1 somewhat disturbing scene, but very brief. Some British "swearing". Very good movie.

Thanks for your blog!

It was excellent. His biography written by Casper Morris and 2 of his 6 children is even better:

Also, his Practical Christianity is very good, although tough to digest. I suggest reading it in small chunks. It's worth the effort.

Hi Barbara, I bookmarked this particular post so I could come back and see what others had to say about the movie. Just today I decided to check the Plugged In Online site. It lists positive and negative elements, se*ual content, and profane language, along with spiritual elements in the movie. After taking it all into consideration, I'm not sure I can enjoy wading thru it to get to the good of the story. Just my thoughts. But it's a shame. I guess I'm wondering why couldn't they get the point across without all the crude language.

Just saw it. LOVED it! An inspiring bold profession of the Christian faith like we all ought to express it.

This was VERY good. My husband and I saw it. It is always inspirational to see how God uses the "world system" to accomplish HIS purposes.

I was especially taken by the perseverance it took to accomplish God's will. In a world of FAST everything, the reminder that God's will can take time, even years to unfold. Like parenting, mothering and homeschooling, we just have got to keep on keeping on, through seemingly fruitless activity, and beleiiving in faith that our toil is not in vain in the Lord!

My 17 year old daughter saw it on opening night & then proceeded to beg my husband & I to take the whole family to see it over the weekend. (She was so insistent, she even offered to pay for us all to go!)

We all went (except our 4 year old) on Sunday afternoon and everyone of us was completly inspired by the film and its message. Since Sunday, my children have been reading all they can get their hands on about William Wilburforce & John Newton and my eldest two daughters (17 & 14) have decided that they too can "change the world" and have already started praying about & planning what they can do to stop modern day slavery around the world!

If a movie can do all that...I can overlook the small ammount of negative elements that were presented in the Plugged In review. To be honest I did not even notice any of it. (I do happen to be more of a "big picture" personality tha a "detailed" one however)

I do hope you all take the time to see this film!

Great Movie. Language not at all bad. Moral is something we all need to see and we need to have our Congress see. You should see it.
