News on my books
My next books are up at Amazon - they'll be available in June:
Preparing Your Preschool Child for a Lifetime of Learning
A Complete and Easy-to-use Home Reading Program
The first is the book I showed you last night that I'm checking page proofs on. Page proofs for the second will get here today and I'll start them. I was able to use many of the pictures you all sent me and will be sending out permission forms for you to sign. You will also receive a copy of the book in June.
I want to thank all of you who've reviewed my books at Amazon. Two recent reviews just went up for The Mommy Manual: Planting Roots to Give Your Child Wingsby two moms who are readers here:
Five stars are not enough, February 5, 2007 Reviewer: Greta (Missoula, MT) This book is one of my most prized possesions. There are many reasons to love it. First, it is written by a real Mommy who has been through it all. The wisdom is priceless for Christians and non-Christians alike, for seasoned Mommies and new ones too. This book is REAL. Secondly, it is easy to read. The chapters aren't too long, the style is fun and clear, and you can't wait to pick it back up. Most importantly however, is Mrs Curtis' heartfelt desire to not overburden already burdened Mommies. You won't find guilt trips, you won't feel tired and like a failure. You will come away with the feeling of having a new breath of fresh air, and inspiration to be the best Mommy that God can create you to be. You feel treasured and honored to be among those God has allowed to be called, "Mommy".A Must-Have for Moms!, January 29, 2007

I love this book. It was a totally different perspective than the one I had been operating under. This book (as well as Barbara's other books and website) have inspired me to take a more proactive approach to my parenting and to enjoy a phase that is so often seen as difficult by other people. I really wish I'd had this book when my oldest was a preschooler, but it has still positively affected my parenting of him, as well as my younger two kids.I've gotten so many ideas for enriching my kids' lives and learning in ways that aren't hard or complicated or intimidating. Barbara's writing is accessible and engaging. I've read the Mommy Manual several times and am currently reading The Mommy Survival Guide. I have found these books to be the kind of parenting support I needed!
Thank you so much! With so many parenting books out there, your reviews help other moms decide whether this is a book that is worth spending money on. I know I depend on the reviews at amazon when I want to buy everything from books to kitchen stuff.
There are no reviews at Amazon yet for The Mommy Survival Guide: Making the Most of the Mommy Years, but Leslie has posted the first online review I've seen here.
Thank you, Leslie!

Hi Barbara,
Wondering if "Teach Me To Read" is a good book for teaching kids with Down Syndrome. Thanks!

Hi Jenny -
My book isn't that good for teaching kids with Down syndrome to read as they typically do better with a sight-reading approach. Once they are started on the road to reading they can add phonetics as part of their word-attack package, but they just don't seem to do well with the phonetic approach. At least that's my experience.
