Time magazine cover story: Pregnancy Resource Centers

TIME_cover200.jpg

I haven't read Time magazine for years - too biased for my taste. But my friend Robin sent me this alert:

Pregnancy Resource Centers attract major publicity by appearing on the cover of the February 26th edition of Time Magazine and in the article titled “The Grassroots Abortion War.” The saying goes that there is no such thing as bad publicity. With Time’s circulation numbers near 4 million, the complaint of pregnancy centers everywhere being “the best kept secret” may become a thing of the past. While the article touches some of the abortion industry’s standard talking points, it also strongly highlights the good work done in pregnancy centers. We can find a few examples of questionable tactics, but the article upholds the fact that our work is to affirm the life of the woman and the baby.

I thought that the article was horrible. There is absolutely no question about where the "journalist's" bias lies, and it's just exactly what I'd expect from Time magazine. So many examples of missteps, misinformation, and "machiavellian" tactics on the PRC side, with little to balance it and give a true picture. Such unquestioning acceptance of the "choice" rhetoric, with no mention of the manipulation and misinformation of the abortion industry. Blech.

It's interesting that the article put the "risk of death" in childbirth as 12 times that of abortion. Hmmm. I thought that the death rate in abortion was just about 100%... Very sad.

Barbara,

Thanks for bringing this article to my attention. It was especially of interest to me since I volunteered at a CPC for a few years in the late 90's. I've been meaning to blog about my experiences for a while, and this was just the impetus I needed to get it done. What a wonderful ministry CPC's are and I pray that God continues to bless and use them to support women and children.

I invite all of you to join me in writing a letter to the editor of Time, correcting the misinformation from the pro-choice side against CPCs. Also, if you've had a positive experience with a CPC or Pregnancy Resource Center, please share it with them, it's one of the most powerful forms of testimony.
