Apron Talk!
I think I'm gonna do this again. I'd been asked to our church women's group yesterday and they decided in honor of my Apron Power! contest to do an apron theme.
We all wore aprons and some had stories about their grandmothers wearing aprons and the warm memories they had of special times. We talked about how aprons had somehow become a symbol of servitude rather than something we put on to keep our clothes clean and say to the world that we're ready to do our motherhood thing.
It was a wonderful feeling to walk into a warmly-decorated room full of warn, welcoming, and very happy women! I'd invited one of my local readers. She was already there when I arrived and had received a warm welcome too.
Here we are together, shortly before going out to lunch afterwards.

If anyone out there wants me to come give an Apron Talk, I'm ready! I was so energized spending time with this group of women! Knowing that they collectively were raising well over 100 children - mostly homeschooled, but all being raised to love and serve God - made me feel so confident in the future.
What a radiance and joy we share because we're living FOR something greater than ourselves.
Moms, I know what it's like to face the daily grind - but just remember how much your job matters and what a difference you are making!

Something in that post kind of struck me as odd. What's wrong with aprons being a symbol of servitude, at least for those of us who are honored and happy to serve our families? You write often of letting go of the "have it your way" attitude of today's society. I'm proud to serve my husband and children, and through them, the Lord. And I've found out how rewarding a life of servitude really is mostly because of reading your books and your blog urging mothers to recognize that we honor the Lord in all the work we do, no matter how mundane. I hope I haven't offended you by this, I just wanted to share my perspective.
