Boys' haircuts

It's been a long time since I ran this - just thought some new readers might be brave enough to give this a whirl - especially with warmer weather coming.

The best $25 I ever invested was in a Wahl hair clipper kit fifteen years ago when I had four sons under 6.

Since then, I figure I've given something like 900 haircuts to those four sons, the four that came later, and my dear hubby, thus saving $9000- 18,000 for the Curtis household.

It's really easy to learn to cut boys' hair. The Wahl kit is now 43.95 and comes with a DVD instead of a video. Still, with haircuts $12 or $15 it won't take long to pay for itself.

I also invested in a really good pair of scissors and learned to cut longer hair that way.

I don't have the patience to be as precise as a barber, but I developed my own style of grabbing sections of hair between my fingers (without doing the comb sectioning thing) and cutting at a uniform length.

Be brave!

Besides saving money, it's kind of a sweet ritual - a mother/son bonding thing - and one I highly recommend.

Love,

Oh. Should I watch the video? I bought the same kit about 6 years ago and I am so glad for the money saved. My boys are getting tired of the buzz cut look. Ok, I guess it is time to read the directions.

I agree that these are a wonderful investment; I cut my husband's hair now (It's easy!) and save a ton of dough each year :)

Amen to the haircut saving. I have been cutting my hubby's hair for almost 23 years now. I have to tell you the first time was really funny as a new bride. My best friend had show me how on her curly haired husband. I tried the same with my straight husband. After a few snips I step back almost burst into tears and exclaimed "you look like Moe(of 3 Stooges fame)!! Needless to say we laugh about this often now, and my husband says I do a much better job than the barber shop!

Heh. Funny you'd mention this now...I'm about to cut my son's hair (and mine) with a very similar kit. We've got the one with color-coded combs, and it works great. I've been cutting mine sans comb for a nearly-bald look.

It's nice to save the money, but I also hate taking the time to go get my hair cut. This way, I cut it super-short every couple of months, and it only takes about 15 minutes.

It was a nice ritual at our house, too...until I snipped my son's ear lobe. For some strange reason, he always preferred the barber shop after that. Imagine!
