Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool

Loudoun County Very Special Arts - Japanese Fairy Tales

Japanese Fairy Tales

Very Special Arts of Virginia in Loudoun County was created to "celebrate the creative power in people with disabilities."

This year's original theater production (written by Alice Power with music by John Krumich), Japanese Fairy Tales, consisted of two traditional stories: "Urashima Taro" and "Sima Who Wore the Big Hat."

Our son Jonny, who is 14 and has Down syndrome, marked his fourth year in VSA productions with the lead role in the first tale. His adopted brothers Jesse (11), Daniel (10), and Justin(6), who also have Down syndrome had their theatrical debut in the show as well :)

The sets and costumes are always fantastic and this year was no exception! The community is is very supportive of these productions and there were large audiences and lots of enthusiasm for every performance.

I created this Picasa album (click on the picture to see it all), and am sharing it in spite of my embarassment that these pictures are not my finest work :). Tripp bought me a new telephoto lens for Christmas and I used it to work without a flash - but I really needed to have the camera mounted on a tripod for the best results.

I've told the story in the captions under the pictures, but there was no spoken dialogue - the tale was told in instrumental music, movement, and song. I hope the joy of the production shines through!

Love,

Barbara, you must be so proud of your boys! What a wonderful accomplishment and what a feeling this must produce within them.

You are a great spokeswoman for motherhood, large families, adoption, down syndrome (and the potential within ds children) and covervative politics. Oh yes, and lemon juice too. (We drink lemon juice regularly.)

It sounds like the gluten-free diet must be going okay? Do you only have Jesse on the diet?

Thank you!!! :) and love to your family!

How FUN! These photos made me wish I was there! You must have had been so proud that night!!! It looks like it was a phenomenal performance - Jonny certainly shines onstage, you can tell he is in his element:) BTW - Tripp reminds me of Francis Schaeffer. Maybe its the hat but I think he also has a similar distinguished joy about him.
