Welcome, Weekend Magazine listeners

Over a year ago Dr. Bill Maier of Focus on the Family's Weekend Magazine taped an interview with me. They're running excerpts every weekend through the month of March - just little sound bites to stimulate some new ideas in parents.

My regular readers can click in to hear the broadcast here. (I really think I need to ratchet up the excitement level in my voice for these things - I sound just a little too laid back. Must be all those years in California :)

And if you are visiting because you heard the broadcast and want some ideas for improving your relationship with child teen and helping them make the most of these potentially character-building years, the book I'm discussing on the show is Dirty Dancing at the Prom and Other Challenges Christian Teens Face: How Parents Can Help.

This is not en expose of the negatives in their lives, but a reader-friendly look at the positive impact we can continue to have on our children's lives as they navigate the teen years.

This overview might help:

Table of Contents

Being Grounded in God’s Love: Self-esteem

Setting Limits: Self-assurance

Avoiding Temptation: Self-control

Developing Compassion: Self-sacrifice

Standing Up For What’s Right: Self-respect

Making the Most of Mistakes: Self-help

Living with Integrity: Self-satisfaction

In addition to recommending this book to parents of teens, I think parents whose kids still have a few years to go could greatly benefit from the suggestions on how to arrange your home to encourage family togetherness, how to keep open lines of communication and how to show your kids you care.

Love,
