Imus should resign. Period.

Since everyone wants to know what I think about the Imus situation:

I've never liked Imus. His humor is way too cruel for my taste.

As to the debate over whether he should lose his job completely or just be suspended for two weeks: This is a country of double standards where only conservatives lose lobs or resign when they've done something deemed wrong by the PC police. I tuned in Imus this morning - yes he sounded contrite, but still felt that he deserved to keep his job. Why the double standard? Imagine if Rush or Hannity said anything remotely like Imus said.

I think what Imus said is ABSOLUTELY deplorable. But I also think it's deplorable when black rappers say the same thing and much, much worse about black women. I've wondered for years why this is so out-of-control. I do think that the black community would have more moral authority when it comes to calling for people's heads if they would clean up their own act. Try listening to Bill Cosby on personal responsibility rather than Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who thrive on keeping everyone in victim status.

What do you think?

Love,

Amen! I have no love for Imus, but the fact that Al "Freddie's Fashion Mart" Sharpton was able to get more race-baiting mileage out of Imus' remarks is what I find really sickening.

There's so much that the so-called "civil rights" leaders like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson could be doing to address the ills of the inner city, and yet they're busy focusing on morons like Imus, and using them to keep the fires of racial animosity alight.

Unfortunately, without the specter of racism, folks like Sharpton know they'd have no power, and few would listen to them. It's maddening that fools like Imus are all too happy to help them hold onto that power, by making idiotic and offensive statement, and then groveling to the Sharptons of the world. Forget Sharpton, Imus. Go to Rutgers and apologize in person...and in private.

Personally, I think that common sense people, regardless of color are the ones that look down on this kind of thinking. The ones who hold themselves to a higher standard know that calling other people names is pure stupidity. I have met just as many stupid white people (of which I am)as I have other races. The only difference is that white people don't get to stand up in the media the way that the blacks or Latins do. Then we are told we are racist and being unfair. Double standard in so many different ways.

And I don't understand why Imus has a radio show to begin with. I have watched him a few times in the past and he never says anything worth really listening too. Just another cookie cutter commentator who thinks he has something to offer.

If anyone cares to read it, One of our writers on Highbrid Nation actually worked wit Imus over the last few years and had some really interesting things to say about the whole situation with Imus and he also has some inside info that the media hasn't mentioned about the whole story.

As usual, I agree with you completely.

I voted for Imus's resignation on the msnbc website this a.m.

I completely agree, and if he won't resign, I think the radio stations that carry his show should drop him. If I were program director of a radio station, that's what I'd do. Of course, I probably wouldn't be carrying his show in the first place.
