Meet my neighborly cardinal
I love cardinals. Actually, I love birds. Tripp - who likes to speak my love language - has surrounded our house with birdfeeders to bring wild birds to me. There are a couple in the tree outside my office window, where yesterday, I enjoyed watching this little guy:
Just thought I'd share because cardinals aren't found everywhere and I was so thrilled when I returned to Virginia from California almost five years ago to have them in my life again.

Golly! I thought our Blue jays were exotic enough, but red has always been my favourite colour.
Cheers

I love cardinals! Saw a couple about two weeks ago. It has been cold for a week here so we have not seen as many birds. My husband is putting feeders out for me. I hope to see hummingbirds often this year. We also get an occasional woodpecker and plenty of dark-eyed juncos and wrens.

When I lived in Louisiana it seemed as though there were cardinals everywhere. I use to say there were more cardinals in louisiana than at the vatican. *snort*
Here in the desert of california I don't see too many birds.

When my boys were dyeing eggs last weekend, they all named each egg. R8's two special ones were the cardinal egg and the bluejay egg.

we live in southern illinois where blue jays, cardinals, redbirds, and sparrows are plentiful. My mother loves birds and has tons of bird feeders in her yard. I feel so lucky to live where I do.

I still remember the extreme shock I felt when I saw a blaze of red streak across a dull landscape. I thought, "was that a cardinal?" I later realized it was so. It was very dramatic, and it was in. . .Virginia!

Yes, I love cardinals too. I have a great many of them around our house. Like you I have tons of bird feeders all around, especially close to the many windows of our house so no matter which window I look out I can catch a glimpse of a bird or two. lately, I've seen a lot of Waxwings and have been surprised by how many of them are hanging around. but those other birds in the picture, cow birds as we call them, are mean, mean, mean. I always run them off when they come flying in by the droves. Did you know that they do not nest? They lay their eggs in the nests of other birds, tossing out the eggs of the original nester to raise them - and their favorite nest and favorite egg to toss is the Robin egg, as it looks most like the egg of their own. Sad? isn't it? We have many Robin nests around and I prefer them over the cowbird.

I love to look at cardinals too, here in Ohio. I like their little stoic black faces. The cardinal is our state bird (looks like it is yours, too!), and is on the logo of my daughter's digital academy, OHVA.

He is SO beautiful Barbara!!! I just recently started to take more interest in birds, as we are homeschooling, and just started a bird study from www.amblesideonline.org It's interesting how homeschooling gets me more excited about learning.
If you have any tips about kid friendly bird feeders, I'd love to hear them!!!
Blessings to you today Barbara. I sure do appreciate you and this site!
