    The Little Red Hen
Hooray for a good work ethic! The little red hen asks but receives no help in her efforts to put bread on the table. Yet all who wouldn't help would like to eat. In a refreshingly old-fashioned triumph of moral consequences, they don't get to!
  • Noisy Nora
    Noisy Nora
Poor Nora! The loveable mousette experiences all the pangs of the child-in-the- middle, caught between the demands of baby brother and bossiness of big sister. Catchy meter, playful illustrations make for a wonderfully satisfying mouse's tale. Baby-Preschool

Sophia at Victorian Ball

Here in Virginia history is BIG - and very popular among teens. Each year Loudoun Valley High sponsors a Victorian Ball, which students have to apply to attend, committing to several dance practices - plus period dress and conduct. There are always more applicants than space will allow, so Sophia felt very fortunate to go this year.

The original Ball was cancelled due to snow and was finally held yesterday. Maddy and I were off to see Dolly Stevens' one-woman show at Shenandoah (a funny/angsty look at midlife for a mom whose juggled theater and family for 20some years), so Tripp took these pictures of Sophia before she left to meet her friends for the Ball:

Note Sophia's cat - isn't that funny?

I was here to hear all about her full dance card when she came home. Here's one I took:

Lovely dress! The pic with the cat is so cute. The one you took should be framed.

That is so, SO neat!!!!! She looks beautiful!!!

(I'm insanely jealous, BTW...that is so something I would have loved to have done as a teen! But I lived in Arkansas LOL!)

I love the pictures! My husband and I live in the Shenandoah Valley and we had a period wedding. (Civil War) It was so much fun and we have also attended a Civil War Ball. The clothes from that time at heavy but so much fun.

I love her dress! I wish NJ had a history ball. Ha, ha...I don't think anytime soon. :)

I just started a blog, and posted about you and your books: http://rie-daybyday.blogspot.com/

oh wow!! she is soooo beautiful and looks so grown up! The dress was gorgeous! where did she get it? the color was just perfect on her too! you know, i would so love to see some sort of "theming" done for proms. I think it would help curb any "sleezy" dress attire and make it more fun for the kids. *sigh* guess that's off subject.

You looked beauitful Sophia and I hope you had a fantastic time!
