A Spiritual Approach to Weight Loss

Last year on the road to losing 75 pounds I realized that without a spiritual makeover we can never hope to achieve and maintain weight loss. For me it was a personal journey where God led me through many realizations about the bondage I was in - and all the reasons why I could hope that by putting my trust in Him and making sure I never put food before Him in my life I would find the comfort I formerly found in food.

(You can read many of these reflections under my Diet category.)

If this line of thinking resonates with you, you may want to check out The Lord's Table - a site which a reader recently recommended. Be sure to look at the Before and After pictures and read the testimonies of those who've used the program.

There is also a children's program, as well as a book The Lord's Table: A Biblical Approach to Weight Loss e available at Amazon.

Although I have not used this myself, reviewing their site and the user reviews at amazon, it seems like these folks have come to the same conclusion I did on my own weight loss journey - that gluttony is a spiritual issue and needs a multifaceted approach: a no-compromise diet, exercise, getting real spiritually and allowing God to work on the areas in which you need to be set free.

Last week when our family went to Great Falls (pictures here) and I couldn't help but notice how much more energy I had to scramble over the rocks for pictures and to kick a soccer ball around with my children and grandchildren - and just how great I felt! I was thanking God that he got my attention in time so that I could enjoy life to the fullest for the rest of my life. Being fat is bondage. It keeps us from reaching our potential. God really offers us so much more.

Last week in our Beth Moore Bible study, Breaking Free, she spoke of the Samaritan woman at the well and how Jesus said that if she drank of the Living water she would never be thirsty. It is true. It doesn't work to just take the food away from yourself - which is why we fail constantly at diets. You must allow God to fill that emptiness in your soul that keeps you eating when it's past time to stop.

Love,

Thanks for posting that! After losing almost 60 pounds, I feel much better too. But the spiritual part of it is SO right. It IS a spiritual battle more than a physical one. And the only way I will keep off the weight is through HIS strength!
