Freecycle

freecycle.jpg

Need something? Have something you don't need? There's a place for you - Freecycle.

When you want to find a new home for something -- whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door -- you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of the local Freecycle group.

Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member's offer, and you just might get it. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure.

Our main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

Freecycle isn't just some flash in the pan - with over three and a half million members, they're worth checking out.

Love,

I love Freecycle and use it fairly often. I've gotten rid of all sorts of odds and ends (everything from a stove to an assortment of cookbooks) and even picked up a few treasures for my family. I love that I can get rid of excess clutter from my life without adding it to a landfill. I hope all of your readers give it a chance!

Freecycle has been a part of my family's life for almost 3 years now. We have received many, many wonderful things and donated items we thought useless but others needed. For instance, 90% of my now 11 month old daughter's clothing came from a FreeCycler. This kind lady simply didn't have the room to store it and I needed the clothes. A match made in heaven.
An aside: I like most everything about FreeCycle except their slogan "Saving the world one..." I forget all of it. The only way to save the world is through Jesus Christ's work of salvation on the cross. NOT recycling!

I love freecycle! It's so much more fun to give away stuff to actual people, than to a thrift store!
And I have been amply blessed. Our wonderful, quiet, awesome dishwasher was from freecycle. And the baby swing. And all of my second's clothes up to one year. And lots of clothes for my first. And her first bicycle.
And assorted other things, of course. I recommend it all the time!

Thanks for posting this! I have been an avid freecycler since I first heard of it several years ago in Augusta, GA. I was a moderator there, and then tried to find freecycle in Germany (there wasn't one close enough, but the post recycling center was AMAZING). Now I am again a moderator for our freecycle group here in Kansas. I urge EVERYONE to get involved in this. You can get rid of things that others need. You can ask for things that you might need.

People often "NEED" things that are outrageous, yet they can get it for free here.

One thing that needs to be said, though...be certain your local freecycle group is indeed associated with freecycle. Any TRUE Freecycle group must be approved by the Freecycle organization. Sometimes, people get upset if they get reprimanded for not following the rules (or get banned if they do something TERRIBLE, like threaten someone), and they "start" their own group.

And as always, be CAREFUL when dealing with strangers!
