Little things mean a lot
This made me smile this morning:
Hi Barbara,
Yesterday morning, I went to flush my toilet by lifting the lid to the tank off and reaching into the tank to pull on the chain manually. This is how my husband and I have been flushing our toilet for about a month and a half. When I went to reach in the tank for the chain, I noticed that there was new stuff in the tank and a new handle on the outside. I was so happy!! My day was made. I also remembered the picture of your toilet that you had posted and how grateful you were to your husband for fixing it. I couldn't wait to tell you because I knew that you would appreciate this too.
Also, I have shared your mom's day album with many people and I am very proud that Gabriel and I are a part of it. I've gotten some great feedback about your site which I recommend all the time to my friends :).
Have a great week and God bless,
Angelica
Thanks so much, Angelica! I know it seems like a small thing, but the small things really matter, don't they? (For anyone who needs clarification on how fixing a toilet can become reminder of a husband's love, see my post on Love Languages)
Since last Christmas, I've been wearing a silver bracelet with this message:
We can do no great things, only small things with great love.
~Mother Teresa~
The Bible tells us to do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:14). I’m challenging myself daily to make sure that’s not just a glib statement, but that I actually am trying my best to do even the smallest most unrewarding tasks with love – and recognizing those around me who’ve shown me love in small and simple ways too.
How has someone shown you love lately – in actions that only you could understand?

When my husband makes the orange juice, it makes my day. I know it sounds silly, but it's one of the jobs I really don't like, and when I open the fridge in the morning, and it's full? BIG TIME BROWNIE POINTS FOR HIM! :-)

Barbara, where did you get the bracelet made? I would love to have one like that. Thanks.

I am going to TATTOO that to my forehead, I think. Thanks for sharing.

My husband secured a boat to take me across a pond so I can have a grand entrance at my pirate birthday party this weekend. It is a very silly little thing, but I love it that he is excited about my party and wants to make it extra special for me.

My husband put away the clean dishes this morning before he went to work. He didn't have to do that. I don't think he knows how wonderful it is to have one less daily chore.
