Moving on to gmail - write me at my new address

My technomarvelous son-in-law Kip and my equally marvelous son Zach have been urging me for years to get rid of AOL. But while I'm usually quick to embrace something new (I own my own name as a domain name - which means I thought of it before the hundreds if not thousands of other Barbara Curtises out there), I was just not ready to commit to the time and energy it would take getting used to something new. I've been using AOL for at least ten years. Even though I've had all kinds of broadband service through different moves, I've just kept the old familiar AOL browser.

When I was at Mount Hermon two months ago, though, Mel of Actual Unretouched Photo showed me how wonderful gmail was and signed me up. Only problem has been that I have a HUGE address book and there is no way to transfer it without entering every item one-by-one into my gmail account. This was always one of Kip's gripes about AOL - that they weren't big on making themselves compatible with everyone else.

Well, as often happens, I was finally forced by way of a crisis to make the move I should have made long ago. My computer just became so slow I could cook a meal while waiting for pages to download. And because I am so dependent on my computer to meet my need to communicate, I was miserable. It was affecting every aspect of my life.

Kip had spent a few hours cleaning it up for me for Mother's Day and then a week later it was locked up again. This time Zach gave me the final verdict: AOL must go.

And so it has been completely eliminated from my computer, though I still have to access my AOL email through Firefox, which is quite awkward. I'm still in that limbo of having a new email address that no one knows and still getting tons of email at AOL. I just don't have any idea when I'll have time to enter my email addresses.

So - here is my simple request. If you would like to be on my email list, would you please send a quick note to megamommy12(at)gmail(dot)com? Then I will add you to my address book. Also, please change your own address book to reflect my new address 0 I'd really like to phase out AOL for good.

Gmail is fabulous, btw - it just has such great features and makes keeping a history of correspondence so easy. I can invite 50 friends to get a free gmail account. I've only used 10, so if you would like one let me know.

Love,

Will do, Barbara! However, you might want to change that "Email Me" link at the top of the page. ;)
