Zach is flying high!

It's official! Zachary has just been offered an appointment to the Us Air Force Academy!
Zach is our Number 4 Son and from the time he was a little boy he has been preoccupied with military leadership and strategy. When he was only nine or ten his chosen recreational reading tended to biographies of people like Hannibal and Winston Churchhill.
Zach was a Merit Scholar and has attended Liberty University the past two years, now majoring in computer science. When he told friends in high school where he was going to college, they said things like, "Why aren't you going to a REAL college?" But then, they were the same people who asked, "How can you be smart and be a Christian?"
He might say something like, "How can you be smart and not be?"
Zach plays rugby and sings like an angel - a deep-voiced angel - and competes in Quiz Bowl. He is the same personality type as his mom - ENTJ - and a really, really cool guy.
Now his dream is coming true.
And here's something interesting that God planted early on: Ten years ago, Zach and I took a trip together to Colorado Springs. I was going to introduce my first book at a MOPS convention and I'd decided to take Daniel, who was just a baby, to meet his birth father's family. I thought it would be nice to spend some one-on-one time with Zach too - maybe go visit Focus on the Family while we were there.
Daniel's grandmother urged us to visit the Air Force Academy. That's where I shot these pictures of Zach:

I remember so vividly touring the Air Force Academy with Zach. Now it makes the miracle tangible to know that we spent time together in the place where he'll be for the next four years. Life is so incredible sometimes it seems you just couldn't make this stuff up.
Thanking God for his many blessings.

Congratulations to son AND mom!
My husband attended West Point, and its molding of his character is one of the reasons I married him.

WOW! That is so cool! I really enjoyed reading about a young boy's dream come true. And how neat it is that you have pictures of him there as a boy. Truly wonderful!

Thanks everybody, but I must say, if there is anything of any value in me, it can be attributed to only three persons, God, my dad, and my mom. Mom, you're the best.
P.S. I did send you a more recent picture of myself, did I not? 0:)

Yippee! Congratulations to your entire family. What an honor.
I have a soft spot for Air Force cadets. In college I was a member of an Air Force auxillary called "Angel Flight". It is now called "Silver Wings" to be more policitally correct. Anywhoo...I got to know many, many of these wonderful and smart (and handsome!) young men way back when.
Your boy is in for the ride of his life. His strong Biblical background will serve him well when the heat is on, as it surely will be.
Please ask him to send his mom lots of pictures of the beautiful Academy so you can post them here.

CONGRATULATIONS! I love the details of this story, Barbara. I have many fond memories of my cadet friends when I was a young publicist in Colorado Springs. What a beautiful Academy.

Congratulations! My son graduated from USAFA and it is such an accomplishment. Zach has many hard days ahead of him as he works his way thru his first year, but in the end it is all worth it. We are still enjoying the rollercoaster ride with out son as he continues his AF experience. There are many avenues of support for parents that are well worth your time---they were a great source of help to me. Best of luck to Zach and to you and your family, too. It is definately a family experience.
