Writing resources

Dear Barbara, Do you have any gift suggestions for an aspiring author? Also, please add me to your mailing list. :)

Thanks,
Jen

I am so sorry this has languished at the bottom of my Inbox for a couple weeks, Jen - I kept thinking I'd answer it here so any aspiring writers reading here would know what I recommend.

The best book for writers ever written - in my opinion and millions of others I suppose, because it's been reprinted many times in the past 30 years - is William Zinsser's On Writing Well

There's also the timeless Elements of Style by Strunk and White. I still have my copy from high school - 64 pages of important information that will keep a writer from looking foolish :)

Writers love to read what other writers say about writing, so The Writer's Quote Book is an excellent gift.

Also. a blank book is a natural for a writer to fill. And a special pen is a wonderful symbolic gift that every writer would appreciate!

I've added a category under Barbara's Picks for Writing Helps - and will be adding more to it as time goes by.

Love,

The best writing books I've read are Janie Cheaney's Wordsmith series. They're writing curriculum for middle school and high school students, but I have used them with adults to teach really good creative writing basics.
