Loudoun County - kids' orchestra petting zoo today!

This is very last minute, but just got this this morning. I'm planning to take my kids. What fun!
And if you live somewhere with an orchestra or youth orchestra, maybe you can persuade them to try a petting zoo.
The International Youth Orchestra 2007, which is meeting at Ida Lee Recreation Center (lower level) in Leesburg this week, is opening tomorrow's rehearsal to children and families to participate in an orchestra petting zoo--where children can actively participate in the rehearsal. It is a great way to show children how a full orchestra works and to see MANY different instruments, from the flute to tympani drums (very, very large drums). If you have some free time come and join us Monday, July 2nd from 2-4 pm in the lower level at Ida Lee--just listen for the music! Look for Rachel Soltis in the strings (violin) section and say hello!
Blessings
Dana
One of the main points of my book Mommy Teach, Me! is to help parents see how much children can learn in the early years. They are capable of acquiring vocabulary at an astonishing rate. A four year old can learn all the names of orchestra instruments. The Montessori Materials group - which I will be highlighting at my new website MommyTeachMe.net has orchestra cards you can download to make this possible. My book Mommy, Teach Me to Read! reveals the classic Montessori three-period lesson for teaching language, but you can find it here also. probably.
